Cannabis Extracts Classified as Medicine in the UK

Across the pond, Cannabidiol (CBD)/Cannabis Extracts are set to be classified as a medicine within the UK. This comes after a decision by the Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) after reviewing claims of CBD successfully treating serious diseases.

This means that products containing CBD can be legally distributed and purchased across the UK. CBD is the non-psychoactive derivative of Cannabis and has become popular because of its claims of easing pain and a myriad of symptoms of many debilitating conditions.

The MHRA plans to work closely with companies to ensure CBD product safety and that the 2012 Human Medicines Regulations are met.

British politicians have called for drug policy reform by mandating new medicinal applications for Cannabis and looking to benefit from the potential for more than £1 billion in tax revenue through new Cannabis legislation. Legalizing CBD is a huge step in the right direction and the government plans to rollout regulations ensuring the quality, safety, and effectiveness of CBD products.
